PCV valve and crankcase breather check

            0

Note: To ensure the efficient operation of the PCV system. periodically clean the lines, check the PCV valve and the crankcase breather according to the recommendations of the maintenance schedule. For more information on the PCV system, see Chapter 6.

PCV valve

1. Locate the PCV valve on the valve cover.

2. To check the valve, remove it from the valve cover (see picture) and shake - if it clicks, put it back on the lid.

3. Start the engine and let it idle, then disconnect the PCV valve from the air cleaner housing and check for vacuum. If there is a vacuum, then the valve and PCV system are working properly.

4. If there is no vacuum, there is a problem with the oil filler cap, hoses, gasket leak, valve cover or PCV valve. Look for vacuum leaks in the valve, neck cap, filter assembly (if there) and all hoses.

5. To remove the valve, pull it up. Check the valve cover rubber o-ring for cracks and abrasion. If it is damaged, replace it.

6. If the valve is clogged with deposits, remove and inspect the PCV system filter. In some cars, this filter is made integral with the oil filler cap. If your car has such a filter, then a plastic hose connects the cap to the air cleaner housing. On other vehicles, the filter assembly is located in a separate housing. Check the rubber seal between the PCV filter and the valve cover again for cracks and abrasion. Replace damaged.

7. If the valve is clogged, then the hoses may also be clogged. Remove the hose leading from the valve to the suction pipe and the hose from the filter to the air cleaner housing, and wash them with solvent.

8. After flushing the hoses, inspect for any damage. wear and tear. Make sure the hoses fit snugly on the tips.

9. Install a new PCV valve if necessary.

Note: The elbow is not part of the PCV valve. The new valve does not have a knee; you need to put on it the rest of the old valve. If you purchased a new one, then before putting it on the valve, it should be soaked in warm water for about an hour. You can not put on the knee with force, otherwise it may break.

10. Install clean PCV hoses. make sure they are safe.

Crankcase ventilation filter

11. The crankcase ventilation system shields oil vapor from the crankcase before it enters the air cleaner and burns in the engine. Some models are equipped with a crankcase ventilation system, consisting of a filter valve mechanism located on the cover, connected by one or more hoses to the air cleaner housing.

In other models, there is only a hose connecting the valve cover and the air cleaner. The filter and hose should be inspected and cleaned at regular intervals.

12. Remove filter (if he is) and engine hose (see picture).

13. Wash the filter with industrial alcohol or thinner and inspect for oil deposits. If the filter is clogged, replace it with a new one.

14. Soak the hose in industrial alcohol or thinner and clean it from the inside with a long brush or a rag wound around the wire.

15. Allow the filter and hose to air dry, then install them in the engine.
