Maintenance schedule (Taurus 1 and 2)

This schedule is based on the manufacturer's recommendations, with some intervals (such as lubrication and fluid changes) being reduced to improve engine and other component durability.

Every 400 km (250 miles) or weekly (whichever comes first).

Check the engine oil level (section 3).
Check the fluid level in the engine cooling system (section 3).
Check the brake fluid level (section 3).
Check your tires and tube pressure (section 4).

Every 4800 km (3000 miles) or 3 months

All the above points are a plus.
Check the power steering fluid level (section 5).
Check the automatic transmission fluid level (section 6).
Change the engine oil and oil filter (section 7).

Every 9500 km (6000 miles) or 6 months

All of the above plus:
Adjust the clutch pedal (section 8).
Check/replace bottom tubes (section 9).
Check/adjust drive belts (section 10).
Check/service the battery (section 10).

Every 19,000 km (12,000 miles) or 12 months

All of the above plus:
Check/replace wiper blades.
Replace the air filter (section 11).
Check the PCV valve and PCV filter (section 12).
Check the fuel system (section 13).
Replace the fuel filter (section 14).
Check the cooling system (section 15).
Check the exhaust system (section 16).
Check your tires (section 17).
Inspect the steering and suspension (section 19).


Inspect the brake system (section 20).
Lubricate the parking brake cable (section 20).
Lubricate the automatic transmission control mechanism (section 21).
Check/change manual transmission oil (section 22).

Every 48,000 km (30,000 miles) or 30 months

Check and repack the spare tire (for 1989 and earlier vehicles (section 23).
Replace spark plugs (section 24).
Check/replace spark plug wires, distributor cap and rotor (section 25).
Service the cooling system (drain, flush, refill) (section 26).
Change the working fluid and filter in the automatic transmission (section 27).
