Checking the voltage regulator (Focus Turnier 1)

            0

Connect a multimeter between the generator "+" terminal (red wire) and ground.

Let the engine run for two minutes at 3000 to 4000 rpm (diesel engine approximately 1800 to 2500 rpm) to allow the generator to warm up to operating temperature (about 80°C).

Turn on the parking lights, radio or fresh air blower. This corresponds to a current load of three to seven amperes. The regulation voltage should now be between 13.5 and 14.8 volts.

If you measure a higher voltage, the regulator is faulty and must be replaced. If the voltage is too low, experience has shown that the graphite brushes in the generator are worn out. In this case, remove the generator and have it repaired in a workshop.
