Note: Only BOSCH generators can replace the brushes separately. Generators from other manufacturers require replacing the relay-regulator assembly.
Removal
Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
Caution: This erases the contents of electronic memory devices, such as the engine fault code memory or radio memory. Therefore, before disconnecting the battery, be sure to read the instructions in the chapter "Removal and installation the battery".

Remove the poly V-belt "1", see p. 29.
Remove generator "2".
Unscrew the fastening screws-6-of the protective cover "5" of the generator.
Unscrew the 2 screws "4" securing the voltage regulator "3" from the back of the generator and carefully remove it.

If the length of the brushes is less than 5 mm, replace the brushes. To do this, unsolder the cores of the connecting wires.
Check the contact rings for wear; if necessary, finely grind and polish the rings.
Clean the contact surfaces and check the tension of the contact springs; replace the springs if necessary.
Installation

Insert brushes "A" and springs "B" into brush holder "C" and solder the connecting wires.
To prevent the solder from rising up the soldered wire when soldering a new brush, it must be grasped with tweezers.
Caution: As the solder spreads along the wire, it becomes hard, causing the brush to become unusable.
The insulating sleeve of the core must be secured near the soldering point with the existing eye.
After installing new brushes, check that they move easily in the brush holder.
Insert the voltage regulator and secure it first with one screw, then carefully press it into the final mounting position and tighten both screws.
Screw on the generator protective cover.
Install the generator.
Install the poly V-belt, see p. 29.
