V-ribbed belt replacement

            0

In Fiesta petrol engines, the automatic tensioner constantly maintains the optimal tension of the V-ribbed belt. In diesel engines, the belt drive consists of two V-ribbed belts, the tension of which is adjusted by tension bolts. From time to time in a diesel engine, check the tension by pressing a finger in the middle of the belt branch. If the belts show signs of wear, replace them.

SEQUENCE OF WORK

1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery

2. Raise the front of the vehicle, securely jack it up and remove the right front wheel.

3. In the presence turn away bolts of fastening of the bottom casing of the engine.

4. In a car with power steering, additionally unscrew the two bolts and remove the power steering pump casing. Otherwise, unscrew the two bolts securing the lower casing of the V-ribbed belt and release the clamp on the water hose.

5. Then release the automatic tensioner by turning to the right (in Zetec-SE engines to the left) idler pulley middle bolt until the belt comes off freely (pic. 15.9).

6. Before installing, check the dimensions of the new belt, lay it on the pulleys in the same way as the old one. To facilitate work, turn the tension roller bolt to the right (Zetec-SE - Left), until the belt rests freely on the pulleys.

7. After that, set the tension roller to its original position. The pre-tensioning of the belt is enough to start the engine, then after a few revolutions of the crankshaft, the automatic device will tension the belt correctly.

8. Further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

Power Steering Pump Drive Belt for Endura-DE Engines

1. Turn away two bolts of fastening of a casing of v-ribbed belts and remove a casing from the power steering pump.

2. Loosen the tension roller mounting bolt.

3. Tension bolt 1 (pic. 15.10) loosen the poly V-belt tension.

4. Remove the belt from the pulleys.

5. Install a new belt and tighten it with a tension bolt. The deflection when pressing the new belt with your thumb should be 1-2 mm. A used belt should sag under thumb pressure by 1–3 mm.

6. Tighten the idler pulley bolt by hand (tightening torque approx. 5–6 Nm).

7. Install the power steering pump cover.

1. Loosen bolt 2 (pic. 15.11) tension roller attachment.

2. Tension bolt 1 loosen the belt tension.

3. Remove the belt from the pulleys.

4. Install a new belt.
