Outdoor Lighting

Exterior lighting includes headlamps, fog lamps, tail lamps, reversing lamps, brake lamps, position lamps, direction indicators, and license plate lamps.

Lighting devices mainly consist of a light source, a reflector and a glass diffuser. Ford uses halogen lamps as the headlight source. The reflector is made in the form of a parabolic mirror, on the inner surface of which a thin layer of aluminum is deposited by spraying. The reflector focuses the light and increases light output - when the main beam is on, it amplifies the light intensity of a halogen lamp by almost a thousand times. Weaker low beam uses only the top of the reflector.

Special glass for diffuser

Specially made glass diffusers focus uniform reflex light with cylindrical lenses, prisms and parallel planes in the required direction. Improperly adjusted headlights dazzle both yourself and oncoming drivers. So check your headlights regularly. Check the correct operation of the lighting devices before each trip at night. If the headlights are not adjusted properly or one of the bulbs is burned out, we recommend that you fix the problem immediately. Since an insufficiently lit car at night on the road is dangerous, it can create an emergency, it is necessary to have a set of spare lamps in the car. The following 12-volt lamps are installed in the vehicle.

TECHNICAL DICTIONARY

Headlight corrector

Pic. 15.14. Location of the headlight range adjustment knob

The headlight beam corrector prevents oncoming drivers from being dazzled when the vehicle load changes. In the Fiesta, the headlight range is controlled by a four-stage rotary control located to the left of the steering wheel (pic. 15.14). The headlight range control controls a stepper motor mounted on each headlight. Depending on the position of the corrector knob, the lead screw adjusts the position of the reflector in the headlight housing. Initial installation (when there are two people in the car) provided by setting the corrector knob to the position «0». Depending on the number of passengers, the corrector knob is moved to the position «3» or «4». Every 15,000 km or once a year it is necessary to check the operation of the headlight range control.
