Exterior lighting includes headlights, fog lights, tail lights, reversing lights, brake lights, parking lights, turn signals and license plate light.

Lighting devices mainly consist of a light source, a reflector and a glass diffuser. Ford uses halogen lamps as a light source for headlights. The reflector is made in the form of a parabolic mirror, on the inner surface of which a thin layer of aluminum is sprayed. The reflector focuses the light and increases the light output - when the high beam is on, it increases the light intensity of the halogen lamp by almost a thousand times. The weaker low beam uses only the upper part of the reflector.

Special glass for diffuser


Specially made glass diffusers focus uniform reflective light with cylindrical lenses, prisms and parallel planes in the required direction. With incorrectly adjusted headlights, you blind both yourself and oncoming drivers. Therefore, check the headlights regularly. Check the serviceability of the lighting devices before each trip at night. If the headlights are not adjusted properly or one of the lamps has burned out, we recommend that you immediately fix the problem. Since an insufficiently illuminated car on the road at night is dangerous and can create an emergency situation, you must have a set of spare lamps in the car. The following 12-volt lamps are installed in the car.

The headlight range adjuster prevents oncoming drivers from being blinded when the vehicle load changes. In the Fiesta, the beam range is adjusted using a four-stage rotary control located to the left of the steering wheel (Fig. 15.14). The headlight range adjuster controls a stepper motor installed on each headlight. Depending on the position of the adjuster knob, the lead screw adjusts the position of the reflector in the headlight housing. The initial setting (when there are two people in the vehicle) is achieved by setting the adjuster knob to position "0". Depending on the number of passengers, the adjuster knob is moved to position "3" or "4". The operation of the headlight range adjuster must be checked every 15,000 km or once a year.
