Brake Disc Fastening

Since August 1983 (manufacturing date code "DT") the screw securing the brake disc to the wheel hub has been removed.

The brake disc is connected to the wheel hub by a spring clip on the wheel bolt, identical to that used on the rear brake drums.

Caution! Due to this change, on vehicles manufactured since August 1983, when removing the brake disc, the relative positions of the brake disc and wheel hub must be marked with a scriber so that the original position of the brake disc relative to the wheel hub can be maintained during installation. Otherwise, the brake disc may have excessive runout.

Brake caliper

Since May 1983 (date code "DL") vehicles manufactured in Genk, and since June 1983 (date code "DY") also vehicles manufactured in Dagenham and Cork, have been fitted with caliper brackets (see Fig. Disc Brake Caliper Bracket Identification) and new type calipers, as well as brake pads with linings that eliminate vibrations. The changes introduced do not change the order of disassembly and assembly of the brakes and the method of replacing the brake pads described in subsection 10.2.

Brake fluid

New brake fluid Ford SAM 6 C 9103 A was systematically introduced. New brake fluid can be used to replenish the amount of previously used fluid. New brake fluid should be used during the replacement process.

Other information regarding the technical characteristics, adjustment and repair of the brake system is given in section 10.
