Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
Caution: When the battery is disconnected, the contents of electronic memory devices, such as engine fault codes or radio codes, are erased. Before disconnecting, also read the instructions in the chapter "Removal and installation the battery".
Loosen the fastening to the damper of the coupling with rubber elastic elements screwed to the cardan shaft.

Caution: Do not loosen the coupling fastening to the cardan shaft.
When using a damper with splined studs, hold the studs with a standard splined socket wrench when loosening the stud mounting nuts.
Remove the cardan shaft as an assembly.
Gearbox N: Remove the propeller shaft from the gearbox extension.
Caution: To prevent oil from leaking out of the gearbox, insert a plug into the gearbox hole.
Support the gearbox using a wooden stand and a garage jack.

Unscrew bolts "A" securing the gearbox crossmember to the body. Unscrew bolt "B" securing the crossmember to the gearbox.
If present, loosen the ground jumper "C" fastening of the radio interference suppression system.
Carefully lower the garage jack and check that no part of the engine is touching the front wall; if necessary, support the engine from the front wall with a wooden block.

Unscrew the bolts "C" securing the gear shift console "A". Detach the gear selection rod from the hinge "B".
To hold the gearshift console in the installation position, secure it with a welding electrode clamped in the gearbox tunnel.

Disconnect the multi-pin connectors "A" of the reversing light switch and "B" of the speed sensor.
Models up to 8/94: Disconnect the clutch cable from the gearbox, see p. 86.

Models from 9/94: disconnect the hydraulic line from the working cylinder at the gearbox. To do this, remove the locking clip at the fitting and disconnect the line. Unscrew the ground wire fastening "arrow".
Caution: Collect any spilled brake fluid with a rag. Observe safety precautions when handling brake fluid, see p. 117.
Loosen the intermediate plate mounting bolts at the gearbox housing and remove the plate (DOHC engine); 1 bolt; v6 engine, 1 bolt with nut, diesel engine 3 bolts).
Loosen all engine and transmission flange mounting bolts and remove them together with the electrical wire holder, heat shield and coolant pipe (DOHC engine: 10 bolts); v6 engine: 6 bolts; diesel engine: 3 bolts).
Gearbox MT-75: support the gearbox with a garage jack.
The gearbox can be easily lifted and pressed away from the engine crankcase with a crowbar.
