Valve clearance adjustment

Numbering of cylinders and connections of high-voltage wires

Valve arrangement

The intake and exhaust valves should be adjusted with a cold engine at a temperature between 20°and 40°C. Valve clearance is very important for optimal engine performance. If the gap is too large, the valves will not open enough, and they will also open late and close early. If the clearance is too small, the valves will not close completely, resulting in a lack of compression and very quick burning of the valves and valve seats.

Valve clearance adjustment

When adjusting the valve clearances, turn the crankshaft only in the direction of the engine, rotate by placing the key on the pulley bolt.

1. Rotate the crankshaft to align the mark on the crankshaft pulley with the mark in the mold "ABOUT" on the drive cover.

2. By slightly rocking the pulley back and forth, you will notice that the valves of cylinder #1 or #5 are rocking (two valve levers move in opposite directions). If #1 cylinder valves rock, rotate crankshaft 360°to rock #5 cylinder valves.

3. Having achieved the desired position of the valves of cylinder No. 5, check the valve clearances of cylinder No. 1, for which purpose install a feeler gauge of one or another thickness between the valve lever and the valve stem. If the clearance needs to be adjusted, turn the valve lever adjusting screw until the desired clearance is achieved. The intake and exhaust valve clearances are different.

4. Now, if you turn the crankshaft 1/3 of a turn, the valves of cylinder #3 will rock, and you can check and adjust the valve clearances of cylinder #4.

5. Adjust the gaps in the order of ignition in the cylinders as follows (see table). On fig. Numbering of cylinders and connections of high-voltage wires shows the order of numbering of cylinders: valve numbering is given in the usual order, starting from the front of the engine (see fig. Valve arrangement).

6. Install the valve cover gaskets and install the valve cover gaskets. Tighten the fixing bolts according to the tightening torque.
