Checking the gas distribution of engines 1.4i / 1.6i

The camshaft actuates the valves using levers and hydraulic tappets. There is no need to adjust valve clearances, as hydraulic tappets constantly dampen the gap to zero (pic. 2.82).

Hydraulic pushers must always be in the mounting position, otherwise the pusher will be damaged.

The camshaft is functionally connected by a toothed belt to the crankshaft. At any given time, the camshaft must be in a strictly defined position relative to the crankshaft. The main installation of the shafts is determined by signs that correspond to the unique position of the piston of the first cylinder at TDC - see fig. 2.83 and 2.84.

The toothed belt that drives the camshaft must be properly tensioned. For this, a tensioner is placed on the end wall of the engine (pic. 2.85). A dynamometer 21-113 is used to measure the tension of the timing belt of the timing drive.

The valve timing is given in the section 2.4 "Block head".
