Driving with Leaky Clutch Hydraulics

Just in case you're on the road «will flow» clutch hydraulics (leaky clutch slave/master cylinder, burst hose, air in the hydraulic system), we will give you some tips on how to get to the nearest destination or workshop without a clutch. With a little patience, sensitive handling of the gas pedal and gear lever, you «outsmart» Focus gearbox and without clutch.

Start without clutch: engine off. Engage 1st gear, then operate the starter. Focus will jerk forward, as soon as the engine starts, carefully add gas. If you do not want to change gears while driving, then on the plain, first turn on 2nd gear.

Upshift without clutch: Engage 1st gear almost immediately after high idle (about 1000 rpm). Slightly release the throttle, gently pull the shift lever through neutral to 2nd gear. If the gear sticks, add a little gas, release the gas pedal and gently push the shift lever into 2nd gear. At a synchronous speed of the engine and gearbox, the lever will slide almost independently. If you have waited too long, you must increase the throttle a little so that the gear is engaged without «gnashing of teeth». If not, stop again and try your luck again. Switching to other gears occurs in the same way. This is most easily done at low speeds: 3rd gear at 30 km/h, 4th gear at 40 km/h and 5th gear at 50 km/h.

Clutchless downshifting: This is best done at low engine speeds and speeds. First, take your foot off the gas pedal and shift out of gear. Then carefully add gas and at the same time push the shift lever in the direction of a lower gear. At the correct engine speed, the gear will engage. Proceed in all gears in the same way.
