Help with malfunctions

identification markReason / features
(A) Insulator tip light gray to graySpark plugs with prescribed glow rating fitted. Engine management (air-fuel mixture preparation, ignition system) works according to instructions. Mechanical wear within tolerance
(B) Whitish insulator tipThe insulator is overheated. bad (or not suitable) fuel Leaky valves. Too small valve clearance. Carry out an exhaust gas measurement. Check engine management, possibly too lean mixture. If in doubt, you risk severe engine damage (piston scuffing, pistons burn out, exhaust valves burn out)
(C) The face of the candle is dark, the insulator is blackSpark plugs with a too high glow number have been installed. The spark plugs are worn out. High share of short distance traffic. The air filter is clogged. Distorted engine management. Lambda probe not working properly Black exhaust fumes
(D) The face of the candle is black, the insulator is oilySee C. Defective ignition wire, spark plug connector. Broken oil ring. Piston seizures. Worn valve stem gasket. High oil consumption. Blue/black exhaust cable

Checking spark plugs

Since petrol engines, unlike diesel engines, depend on an external source of ignition, spark plugs start the power cycle. In previous years, spark plugs were highly sensitive components that reached their wear limit no later than 12,000 km. With modern materials, unleaded gasoline and above all with the use of electronic high-performance ignition systems, this has changed dramatically. Spark plugs are still allergic to moisture after washing the engine, for example, but it's no longer surprising to have a working spark plug after 60,000 km - Ford recommends changing spark plugs after 60,000 km. Nevertheless, you should not let the spark plugs out of your sphere of attention, check them approximately every 20,000 km, the specialist already determines the condition of the engine by the appearance of the spark plug.
