Engine repair in a workshop or do it yourself? (Focus Turnier 1)

Despite the robust design, Focus engines are, of course, not immune to the occasional unpleasant defect. Extensive repairs and precise installation work should be left to a workshop. Trained men in blue have the necessary detailed and professional knowledge, they have the experience and, as a rule, a lot of special tools to get the Focus back on its feet. An unprofessionally replaced toothed belt by an amateur can, for example, cause severe damage to pistons and valves. Therefore, do not undertake repairs to the cylinder head gasket and valves, and repair work on the crank mechanism is also beyond the capabilities of an amateur.

Unless you're completely confident that you can handle or inspect the inside of your engine professionally, keep your toolbox locked for the sake of your wallet. However, the engine bay shouldn't be a no-go zone for you: there's plenty of inspection and maintenance work to do yourself that's better done.
