Control size of the hydrokinetic transmission depth
A = 10 mm
The Ford C 3 automatic transmission has three forward gears and a reverse gear. When moving forward, the gearshift lever can occupy three positions: "D", "2" and "1". In addition, this lever can occupy three additional positions designated: "P", "R" and "N".
The engine can only be started when the gearshift lever is in the "P" or "N" position. A safety device prevents the engine from starting if the gearshift lever is in any other position.
The positions are marked near the gearshift lever, located in the floor of the car. In the "D" position, gear shifting occurs automatically throughout the entire range. Automatic gear selection depends on the driving speed, but it is possible for the driver to downshift by pressing the accelerator pedal all the way (kick-down) to the maximum opening position of the carburetor throttle valve.
Identification
A metal plate containing the gearbox identification data is located under the bolt that secures the rear of the gearbox housing to the front of the gearbox. Another similar plate is located near the gearshift mechanism.
