Replacing transmission fluid in an automatic transmission (Escort 5)

Replace the transmission fluid when the gearbox is cold.

Place the vehicle on a lift or over an inspection pit.

Place a suitable container below the drain plug on the transmission fluid pan. Remove the transmission fluid dipstick to speed up drainage.

Clean the area around the transmission fluid drain plug, then remove the plug and drain the fluid into a container.

After draining the transmission fluid, clean the plug and screw it back into place.

Pour new transmission fluid into the transmission through the dipstick hole.
