2. On vehicles with a catalytic converter, remove the heat shield.
3. Remove the propeller shaft.
4. Support the gearbox using a suitable lift and a wide board and raise the gearbox slightly.
5. Unscrew the four nuts securing the transmission beam to the vehicle underbody and the central bolt securing the beam to the gearbox. Remove the beam.
6. Lower the gearbox and disconnect the speedometer drive cable.
7. Disconnect the wire from the reverse light switch.
8. On vehicles with fuel injection, disconnect the wires from the vehicle speed sensor, which is located on the side of the transmission.
9. Unscrew the two bolts securing the support bracket connecting the gearshift linkage to the gearbox.
10. Using a suitable punch, knock out the pin securing the gear selector rod to the gearbox.
11. Install the engine hoist and lift the engine. The length of the slings and their location should be such that when lifting the power unit, it hangs at an angle of 40–45°.
12. Unscrew the engine mounting brackets from the cylinder block.
13. Check that the steering wheel is in the straight ahead position and mark the position of the intermediate shaft lower clamp and steering gear pinion with paint or a marker, then disconnect the intermediate shaft from the steering gear.
14. Disconnect the brake lines from the front of the suspension beam.
15. Support the beam using a suitable lift and a wide board (without removing the jack from under the gearbox), unscrew the bolts securing the beam to the bottom of the car and remove it.
16. Check that all hoses and wires are disconnected from the engine and gearbox and lower the jack supporting the gearbox.
17. Lower the engine together with the gearbox down and remove it from under the car.
