This chapter contains operations for removing the engine together with the gearbox from the vehicle, and operations for carrying out major repairs of the cylinder head, cylinder block and other engine components. Information on repairing the engine installed in the vehicle is given in parts A, B and C of this chapter.
The engine is removed without the gearbox upwards from the engine compartment using a lifting mechanism. It is also possible to remove the engine together with the gearbox, however, this is much more difficult because it requires installing the car on a lift and using an additional lift to lower the engine together with the gearbox down, having first disconnected and removed the units that prevent the removal of the power unit. When removing the engine, it is advisable to mark all hoses, wires and cables, which will significantly facilitate the work when installing the engine.
