Oil pump — removal and installation

Withdrawal


1. Remove the timing belt.

2. Remove the pulley from the crankshaft.
  • 1.Remove the pulley from the crankshaft.
  • 2.Remove the thrust washer.



3. Disconnect the air conditioning compressor (A/C) from the bracket and attach it to the radiator cross member.



4. Remove A/C compressor bracket (for clarity, the engine is shown removed).



5. Remove an arm of an intermediate support of an intermediate shaft.




6. Remove the oil pan. For more information, refer to the Oil Sump chapter found in this section.

CAUTION: To facilitate subsequent installation, note the location of all spacer shims installed between the transaxle and lower case. When installing the oil pump, the spacers must be installed in their original positions.


Remove the lower crankcase (for clarity, the engine is shown removed).
  • 1.Remove the oil pickup tube.
  • 2. Turn out the lower crankcase mounting bolts.
  • Discard the gasket as it is no longer needed.



8. Remove the accessory drive belt tensioner.



9. Remove the oil pump (for clarity, the engine is shown removed). Discard the gasket as unnecessary.




Installation


1.
NOTE: Install a new oil pump gasket.


NOTE: Do not fully tighten the oil pump mounting bolts at this stage.


Install the oil pump (for clarity, the engine is shown removed).



2. Align the position of the oil pump on both sides so that the mating surface is 0.3 mm - 0.8 mm above the lower edge of the cylinder block.



3. Tighten the oil pump mounting bolts (for clarity, the engine is shown removed).




4. Install the accessory drive belt tensioner.

CAUTION: Make sure all shims installed between the transaxle and lower case are in their original position.


NOTE: Tighten the bolts on the drive axle box first.


NOTE: Install a new bottom case gasket.


Install the lower crankcase (for clarity, the engine is shown removed).
  • 1.Tighten the bolts.
  • 2.Install the oil pump intake pipe.



6. Install the oil pan. For more information, refer to the Oil Sump chapter found in this section.


7. Install the intermediate shaft support bracket.



8. Install the air conditioning compressor bracket (A/C) (for clarity, the engine is shown removed).



9. Connect the A/C compressor to the bracket.



10. Install the pulley on the crankshaft.
  • 1.Install thrust washer.
  • 2.Install the pulley on the crankshaft.



11. Install the timing belt.
