Removal


1. Remove the timing belt. For more information, refer to the Timing Belt chapter in this section.

NOTE: Use a hex socket wrench to prevent the camshafts from turning.


Remove the pulleys from the camshaft.



3. Remove the oil supply flange
  • Discard the camshaft oil seals as they are no longer needed.
  • Discard the oil supply flange oil seal as it is no longer needed.

CAUTION: Loosen the camshaft bearing caps in the sequence shown.



NOTE: Loosen each bolt, working in the sequence shown, loosening evenly in stages, two turns at a time, and remove the bolts.


Remove the camshafts.



Installation


1.
NOTE: Install the camshaft bearing caps, working in the sequence shown, tightening the bolts evenly, in several stages, one turn at a time.


Install the camshafts. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown.



2.
NOTE: Install a new oil feed flange seal.


Apply sealant to the marked areas of the oil supply flange.



3. Install the oil supply flange.




4. Using the special tool, install the exhaust camshaft oil seal. Apply clean engine oil to the camshaft and the oil seal lip.



5. Install the intake camshaft oil seal.

NOTE: Do not tighten the camshaft pulley mounting bolts at this stage.


Install the camshaft pulleys.



7. Install the timing belt. For more information, refer to the Timing Belt chapter in this section.
