Front Crankshaft Seal — Removal and Installation (Focus 1)

Special tool

	Oil Seal Remover 303-293 (21-143)
	Crankshaft Oil Seal Installation Tool 303-395 (21-171)
	Crankshaft Oil Seal Installation Tool 303-684 (21-243)

Removal

1. Remove the timing belt. For more information, refer to the Timing Belt chapter in this section.

NOTE: FRONT marking and timing belt pulley thrust washer position.

Remove the pulley from the crankshaft.

• 1. Remove the crankshaft pulley hub.
• 2. Remove the timing belt key and thrust washer.

3. Remove the front crankshaft oil seal.

Installation

1.

NOTE: Correct seating of seal lip on mounting sleeve.

Slide the front crankshaft oil seal onto the special tool until it reaches approximately halfway.



2. Slide the special tool onto the crankshaft until it reaches the stop.

3. Using your hand, move the front crankshaft oil seal over the special tool and onto the crankshaft until the seal rests against the oil seal retainer.



4. Remove the special tool.

NOTE: Use the crankshaft vibration damper bolt.

Install the front crankshaft oil seal into place using the special tool.

NOTE: FRONT marking and timing belt pulley thrust washer position.

Install the crankshaft pulley hub.

• 1. Install the timing belt key and thrust washer.
• 2. Install the pulley on the crankshaft.

7. Install the timing belt. For more information, refer to the Timing Belt chapter in this section.
