On these engines, the seal is located in the oil pump housing. If the seal is not sealed, the toothed drive belt must be removed as described for these engines to access the front end of the crankshaft. Then remove the crankshaft pulley. The seal can be removed using two self-tapping screws and pliers. A suitable diameter pipe section is best for installation. With this and a large washer, the radial seal can be inserted with the screw for the crankshaft belt pulley.

After installing the seal, place the pulley on the crankshaft. Note the "Front" marking on one side of the pulley. After installation, it should point outward as shown in Fig. 93.
After installation, reassemble the valve timing mechanism as described in the appropriate subsection for engines produced before May 1998.
