Checking the oil pump (Fiesta 2)

            0

Checking the operation of the oil pump is done using a very simple method, but it requires removing and disassembling the pump into parts.

Remove and disassemble the oil pump into parts.

Degrease the pump parts.

Check the wear of the pump parts. If clearly worn parts are found, the pump must be replaced together with the end cover. Pumps installed on 1.1 engines and 1.8 diesel engines cannot be repaired. The check is limited to searching for and detecting obvious wear.

The following clearances are present in the oil pumps of 1.4i/1.6i engines:
  • the gap between the gear with internal teeth and the housing is 0.14-0.26 mm,
  • the gap between the gear with internal teeth and the gear with external teeth is 0.051-0.127 mm,
  • axial clearance between the gear and the seal - 0.025-0.06 mm.

The clearances can be checked with a feeler gauge. If the clearances exceed the specified values, the oil pump must be replaced.

The details of the oil pump of the 1.4i engine are shown in Fig. 2.81.
