The lubrication system supplies the engine with the oil it needs to operate. The oil pump is located at the front of the engine. It pumps oil from the oil pan through the filter to the bearings, primarily the crankshaft and camshaft. The filter is located in the path of the main oil flow that feeds the lubrication system.

In addition to lubricating the interacting parts, the oil also removes the heat generated during engine operation. The oil drained into the oil pan gives off the heat it receives to the walls of the pan, which in turn are cooled by the air blown in from the outside.
