Power steering system purge

            0

All cars

1.
NOTE: When adding power steering fluid to the power steering reservoir, make sure the power steering fluid is clean. Do not agitate the working fluid before using it. To reduce the level of saturation of the liquid with air, pour it into the reservoir slowly. The fluid level should be checked when the fluid is cold.

Fill the power steering fluid reservoir up to the MAX mark.

All vehicles except vehicles with diesel engines

2. Raise and support the vehicle. See Section 100-02 for more information.

3. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor connector (CKP). REFER to Electrical Schematic Section 700-06- for schematics and information on electrical components.

Vehicles with a diesel engine with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR)

4. Disconnect the high pressure fuel pump connector.
  • 1.Pull out the lock lever.
  • 2.Disconnect the plug connector.

Diesel vehicles without EGR

5. Disconnect the fuel cutoff solenoid valve connector (for clarity, the intake manifold is shown removed).

All cars

6.
NOTE: The vehicle must be raised so that the wheels are free and the steering wheel can be turned from lock to lock.

Raise and support the vehicle until the wheels are free. See Section 100-02 for more information.

7.
CAUTION: Do not crank the engine continuously for more than 30 seconds as this could damage the starter.

CAUTION: Do not hold the steering wheel in the full position for more than five seconds as this may damage the power steering pump.

When cranking the engine for a period of time not exceeding 30 seconds, turn the steering wheel from lock to lock. With the help of another technician, add fluid to the reservoir just enough to keep the level constant.

8. Switch the ignition switch to position "OFF" ("Off").

9. Pour the working fluid into the power steering reservoir up to the mark "MAX".

All except diesel vehicles

10. Connect the CKP plug connector. REFER to Electrical Schematic Section 700-06- for schematics and information on electrical components.

Diesel vehicles without EGR

11. Connect the plug connector of the fuel cutoff solenoid valve (for clarity, the intake manifold is shown removed).

Diesel vehicles with EGR

12. Connect the high pressure fuel pump connector.
  • 1.Connect the plug.
  • 2.Press the lock lever.

All cars

13. Start the engine. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock; if there is excessive noise, bleed the system. For more information, refer to the Power Steering System Bleeding chapter found in this section.

14. Lower the car.
