All cars

1.
NOTE: When adding power steering fluid to the reservoir, make sure the fluid is clean. Do not shake the fluid before using it. To reduce the level of air in the fluid, pour it into the reservoir slowly. The fluid level should be checked when the fluid is cold.

Fill the power steering reservoir with working fluid up to the MAX mark.

All vehicles except vehicles with diesel engines

2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Section 100-02 for additional information.

3. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor connector. REFER to Electrical Schematic Section 700-06- for schematics and electrical component information.

Diesel vehicles with exhaust gas recirculation (EGR)

4. Disconnect the high pressure fuel pump connector.
  • 1. Pull out the locking lever.
  • 2. Disconnect the plug connector.

Diesel cars without EGR

5. Disconnect the fuel shut-off solenoid valve connector (for clarity, the intake manifold is shown removed).

All cars

6.
NOTE: The vehicle must be raised so that the wheels are clear and the steering wheel can be turned from lock to lock.

Raise and support the vehicle sufficiently to clear the wheels. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02.

7.
CAUTION: Do not crank the engine continuously for more than 30 seconds, as this may damage the starter.

CAUTION: Do not hold the steering wheel at the lock position for more than five seconds, as this may damage the power steering pump.

While cranking the engine for a period of time not exceeding 30 seconds, turn the steering wheel from lock to lock. With the help of another technician, add fluid to the reservoir until the level remains constant.

8. Turn the ignition switch to the "OFF" position.

9. Fill the power steering fluid reservoir to the "MAX" mark.

All except diesel vehicles

10. Mate the CKP plug connector. REFER to Electrical Schematics Section 700-06- for schematics and electrical component information.

Diesel cars without EGR

11. Connect the fuel shut-off solenoid valve plug (for clarity, the intake manifold is shown removed).

Diesel vehicles with EGR

12. Connect the high pressure fuel pump connector.

  • 1.Connect the plug connector.
  • 2. Press the locking lever.

All cars

13. Start the engine. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock; if there is increased noise, bleed the system. For more information, refer to the Bleeding the Power Steering System chapter in this section.

14. Lower the vehicle.
