Drive axle installer 204-161 (14-041)

General equipment: 32 mm socket wrench.

Withdrawal


1.
NOTE: Use a socket wrench to prevent the piston rod from turning.


Loosen the upper suspension strut nut five turns.



2. Loosen the axle nut.



3. Remove the front wheel. See Section 204-04 for more information.


4. Disconnect the lower suspension arm from the steering knuckle.

CAUTION: The axle nut can be reused four times, note the nut.


Disconnect the front drive shaft from the wheel hub.

  • Loosen and remove the drive axle nut and press the drive axle out of the wheel hub using your own puller.

CAUTION: Support the drive shaft. The inner hinge must not be tilted more than 18 degrees. External hinge - at an angle exceeding 45 degrees.


CAUTION: Do not damage the oil seal.


NOTE: Plug the transmission openings to prevent transmission fluid from leaking and dirt from entering.


NOTE: Transmission fluid leaking. Collect the transmission fluid in a suitable container.


Remove the front drive shaft.


  • Remove the bracket.
  • Remove intermediate shaft.



Installation


All cars

1.
CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the oil seal when installing the front drive axle. If an iB5 gearbox is installed, use the mounting sleeve (included with every new oil seal).


Establish a forward leading semiaxle with an intermediate shaft.

NOTE: Replace bracket and nuts on intermediate bearing.


NOTE: Insert the countershaft into the transmission until the countershaft bearing contacts the rib of the countershaft bracket.


Establish a forward leading semiaxle with an intermediate shaft.



3.
CAUTION: The drive shaft nut can be reused four times; pay attention to the markings on the nut and replace the nut if necessary.



Using the special tool, insert the drive shaft into the wheel hub.
  • Install the drive axle nut.



4. Connect the lower suspension arm to the steering knuckle (left side shown).
  • 1. Connect the lower control arm.
  • 2.Tighten the bolt.



Vehicles with manual transmission iB5.

5. Check the transmission fluid level. See Section 308-03A / 308-03B / 308-03C for more information.

Vehicles with manual transmission MTX-75.

6. Check the transmission fluid level. See Section 308-03A / 308-03B / 308-03C for more information.

All cars

7. Install the front wheel. See Section 204-04 for more information.

8. Tighten the axle shaft nut.




9.
NOTE: Use a socket wrench to stop the piston rod from turning.


Tighten the suspension strut nut.
