Removing and installing the clutch release shaft and sleeve (Mondeo 1 and 2)

Note: Information applies to cable operated clutches only.

Removal

1. Remove the release bearing (paragraph 8).

2. Unscrew the clamp bolt that secures the release lever to the axle. Mark the position of the axle relative to the lever. Then remove the suction lever. There is a characteristic pin on the axle for correct installation (see Fig. 9.2.a-c).





3. Remove the protective cap from the top of the splined axle to expose the bushing.



4. Carefully remove the bushing from the housing using a pair of screwdrivers or pliers. Then remove it from the axle (see Fig. 9.4).



5. Once the bushing has been removed, the axle can be removed. Pull it out of the lower hole by rocking it from side to side (see Fig. 9.5).

Installation

6. Installation - in the reverse order of removal. Apply a small amount of grease to the bearing surfaces of the transmission and bushings.
