Removing and installing the clutch pedal (Mondeo 1 and 2)

Removal


1. Remove the brake pedal (Chapter 9).

2. Remove the spacer washer (blue nylon) from the pedal pivot shaft.

3. Unhook and remove the pedal return spring.

Cable operated clutch


4. Remove the air cleaner (chapter 4A).

5. Disconnect the clutch cable from the release lever (paragraph 4).

6. From inside the passenger compartment, release the cable from the pedal segment.

Hydraulic clutch


7. Remove the elastic ring securing the master cylinder to the clutch pedal.

All models


8. Pull the pedal pivot shaft out of the support bracket and remove the pedal along with the nylon spacer washer. Note that this washer is in addition to the washer located next to the brake pedal.

9. After removing the pedal, pull out the bushings on each side. Remove the rubber pad. On models with 4-cylinder engines, remove the segment (see Fig. 6.9,a,b). Replace components if necessary.

Installation


10. Before installing the pedal, apply a small amount of grease to the pivot shaft and pedal bushings.

11. Installation - in the reverse order of removal. Ensure that the bushings and spacers are installed correctly.

12. Adjust the clutch pedal travel (paragraph 3).
