Fuel pump: the Ford Focus has an electric fuel supply pump installed in the fuel tank. The pump and fuel level sensor form a single unit. The high-pressure valve in the pump body allows excess fuel and gases to return to the fuel tank. The valve maintains the "gasoline pressure" in the injection system at the proper level even when the ignition is off.

Fuel filter: in petrol and diesel engines it is installed in front of the fuel injection system. It filters liquid and solid ballast substances in the fuel.

Carbon filter: installed in the engine compartment, binds fuel vapors coming from the fuel tank. When the engine is running, the electromagnetic valve opens - then the bound vapors inevitably get from the carbon filter into the suction system and mix with fresh gas.

Fuel vapor absorption system: 1 - ventilation pipe from the fuel tank; 2 - activated carbon filter; 3 - cylinder head; 4 - intake manifold; 5 - electromagnetic valve for system control.
