The most important structural components of the fuel supply system

Fuel pump: The Ford Focus has an electrically driven fuel feed pump installed in the fuel tank. The pump and the fuel level sensor form a single unit. An overpressure valve in the pump housing allows excess fuel and gases to return to the fuel tank. valve holds «gasoline pressure» in the injection system at the proper level even with the ignition off.

Fuel filter: in gasoline and diesel engines, it is equally installed in front of the fuel injection system. It filters liquid and solid ballast in the fuel.

Carbon filter: installed in the engine compartment, binds the fuel vapor coming from the fuel tank. When the engine is running, the solenoid valve opens - then the associated vapors inevitably enter the suction system from the carbon filter and mix with fresh gas.

Fuel vapor absorption system: 1 - ventilation tube from the fuel tank; 2 - activated carbon filter; 3 - cylinder head; 4 - intake manifold; 5 - solenoid valve for system control.
