General information about the fuel system

            0

With moderate fuel consumption, the Focus is a rare visitor to the gas station. Models with petrol engines burn Euro-Super petrol, Focus DI refuels with diesel fuel.

The Focus fuel tank is located under the rear seat in the area of the rear body parts. This is a highly elongated shaped synthetic part. In models with a gasoline engine, the fuel capacity reaches 55 liters, both diesel versions will fit 52.7 liters of fuel. In gasoline engines, the fuel level sensor (fuel gauge) and the fuel pump are installed directly in the fuel tank, the diesel engine receives fuel from the fuel tank by means of a booster pump. The pump is a structural element of the single plunger distribution injection pump under the hood of the Focus models. In all models, the fuel supply and recirculation lines are removed from the fuel tank along with the fuel level sensor. The Focus fuel tank does not have a threaded fuel drain port - before work can begin on the fuel tank, the contents of the tank must be drained through the fill port.

Ingenious ventilation system

Suction/discharge pump located in the fuel tank (feed pump) delivers supergasoline from the fuel tank to the engine through a piping system. The fuel filter is located in the fuel supply line «connects» dirt and water condensation. In all Focus models with gasoline engines, the filter is located under the bottom of the body next to the right rear wheel, in Focus diesel models it is located on the side to the right of the engine. The fuel tank vent always ends at the fuel tank filler pipe. Here, during refueling, the displaced air exits the fuel tank and equalizes the vacuum in the fuel tank again according to the amount of fuel used. In this regard, the pressure in the fuel tank is always equal to atmospheric pressure. In order not to expose the environment to an unnecessary load of poisonous fuel vapors, the activated carbon filter (carbon filter) binds the outgoing fuel vapors and, when the engine is running, directs them to the suction path.
