General information about the fuel system (Focus Turnier 1)

With moderate fuel consumption, the Focus is a rare guest at the petrol station. Models with petrol engines burn Euro-Super petrol, the Focus DI is filled with diesel fuel.

The Focus fuel tank is located under the rear seat in the area of the rear body parts. This is a strongly elongated shaped synthetic part. In models with a petrol engine, the fuel capacity reaches 55 litres, both diesel versions hold 52.7 litres of fuel. In petrol engines, the fuel level sensor (fuel reserve indicator) and the fuel pump are installed directly in the fuel tank, the diesel engine receives fuel from the fuel tank using a booster pump. The pump is a structural element of the single-plunger distributor injection pump under the hood of Focus models. In all models, the supply and recirculation fuel lines are removed from the fuel tank along with the fuel level sensor. The Focus fuel tank does not have a threaded hole for draining fuel - before work on the fuel tank begins, the contents of the tank must be drained through the filler hole.

Clever ventilation system

The suction/pressure pump (feed pump) located in the fuel tank delivers the super gasoline from the fuel tank to the engine via a system of pipes. The fuel filter is located in the fuel feed pipe, which "binds" dirt and water condensate. In all Focus models with gasoline engines, the filter is located under the body next to the right rear wheel, in diesel Focus models it is on the side to the right of the engine. The ventilation of the fuel tank always ends in the filler neck of the fuel tank. Here, when refuelling, the displaced air leaves the fuel tank and again equalizes the vacuum in the fuel tank in accordance with the amount of fuel consumed. As a result, the pressure in the fuel tank is always equal to atmospheric pressure. In order not to expose the environment to unnecessary stress with toxic fuel vapors, an activated carbon filter (carbon filter) binds the outgoing fuel vapors and directs them into the suction line when the engine is running.
