Coolant replacement

            0

Ford recommends changing the coolant only after 10 years or 240,000 km. Although this only applies to the original fluid WSS-M97B44-D (Motorcraft Super Plus 2000). But if you still have to make a replacement or cannot unequivocally determine the liquid already filled, proceed as follows.

Depressurize the system through the expansion tank cap. Be careful with a hot engine: risk of scalding.

Place a clean receiving container under the radiator and remove the lower coolant hose clamp or drain plug on the lower radiator box.

In order for the coolant to flow out better, remove the cap from the expansion tank. Drain the coolant and cover the receiving container.

Install the lower coolant hose (if necessary, use a new clamp). Tighten the screw plug.

Pour the prescribed coolant into the expansion tank. Top up the residue to approximately 2 mm below the upper mark with tap water with a minimum lime content until no more air bubbles rise.

Start the engine and let it run at medium speed until the thermostat opens. Top up with tap water if necessary. The fluid level in the expansion tank should remain constant when the engine is warm.

Install the locking cap and test drive. Your Focus will bleed the cooling system on its own during the trip.

After a test drive, carefully open the cap on the expansion tank and let the engine run at medium speed until the radiator fan comes on.

If necessary, now add coolant with tap water up to the upper mark on the expansion tank.

Close the expansion tank cap.
