Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, relieve the pressure in the system by turning the radiator cap for GLA engines by 90°, the thermostat housing cap for GMA and GPA engines or the expansion tank for other engine models (using a rag to avoid burns) Make sure that the heater tap is fully open. Place a clean container under the drain hole 5 (fig. 2.31) of the cylinder block and unscrew the drain plug.
Then disconnect the lower hose from the radiator and completely unscrew the plug. Before filling the system with coolant, tighten the drain plug and connect the lower hose to the radiator. Tighten the radiator plug for GLA engines. Fill the system with coolant through the hole under the plug with safety valves to the edge of the hole and wait until air bubbles stop escaping.
Screw in the thermostat housing plug for GMA and GPA engines. Top up the fluid to the "Maxi" mark, screw in the expansion tank plug. Connect the negative battery cable and make sure there is no coolant leak.
