Check the operation of the thermostat. To do this, immerse the thermostat in a vessel with water so that it does not touch the walls of the vessel. Heat the water and use a thermometer to determine the temperature at which the valve begins to open. Before installing the thermostat, clean the mating surfaces from the old gasket. Install a new gasket 2 (Fig. 2.69), thermostat 3 in the housing and secure with retaining ring 4.

Install the housing with the thermostat assembly with a new gasket 10 (Fig. 2.66) on the engine. Connect the hoses, fill the system with coolant. Start the engine and check for fluid leaks.
