Radiator 1 tubular-plate, steel with transverse movement of coolant. The radiator of the cooling system of the LRA and L7 engines has an increased number of tubes. The safety valve of the cooling system of the GLA engine is installed in the radiator cap, the opening pressure of the valve is 0.91 kgf / cm². For GMA and GPA engines, the safety valve is installed in the thermostat housing cap. For other engine models, in the expansion tank cap: opening pressure is 0.85-1.10 kgf / cm². For GL, Ghia and XR3 vehicles, the expansion tank has an emergency coolant level sensor.
The coolant pump is of the centrifugal type. The GLA engine pump is disassemblable and has sealing glands. The gap between the impeller and the pump body is 0.80 mm. The protrusion of the pump shaft beyond the drive flange is 1.5 mm. The pump is driven by the auxiliary drive belt. On other engine models, the water pump is driven by the timing belt. Since April 1983, Escort cars have been equipped with a new two-piece timing belt cover and a new coolant pump. The pump of the previous model is not supplied as spare parts.
If you replace the coolant pump on a car with an old timing belt cover, you must purchase a new pump kit consisting of a pump, gasket, new timing belt cover and a new lower radiator hose. On cars with a two-piece timing belt cover, it is enough to replace the pump and gasket. Electric fan 4 has a plastic four-blade impeller mounted on the electric motor shaft, which is switched on and off by a temperature sensor installed in the upper radiator hose for GMA and GPA engines (in the thermostat housing on engines of other models). Switch-on temperature is 106±2°C. Power consumed by the electric fan is 90 W at a crankshaft speed of 2600 rpm.
The thermostat with solid filler is installed in the housing near the ignition distributor (on GLA engines in the front part of the cylinder head). The brand and designation of the thermostat for GLA engines is Calorstat Vemet V 28-V-5447. The beginning of the opening of the main valve is 65-89°C, the full opening is 99-102°C, the full stroke of the main valve is 7.5 mm. For used thermostats, the values of the valve opening temperatures are expanded by ±3°C.
The auxiliary drive belt of the GLA engine model Motorcraft 78 F-60301. Kleber Ventifiex 1130, the total value of its deflection in both directions, measured in the middle of the branch between the generator pulley and the water pump pulley is 13 mm when pressing it with a finger (Fig. 2.64).

Coolant with a density of 1.07 - a mixture of 45% Motorcraft Plus SM 97 B-1002 A antifreeze for GLA engines, Ford Super SSM - 97 B-9103-A for other models and 55% distilled water. Replace the coolant every two years. Cooling system capacity: GLA engines - 5.2 l; GMA, GPA - 6.2 l; JPA — 7.1 l; LPA, LUA and LRA - 6.9L; L7 — 7.8L
