Note: Please refer to the warnings at the beginning of this Chapter before starting work.
1. If the checks described in Chapter 1, indicate a defective hose, it should be replaced as follows.
2. First of all, drain the coolant from the cooling system as described in Chapter 1, If there is no need to replace it, drain it into a clean container and reuse it.
3. To disconnect any of the hoses, use a pair of pliers to release the spring clamps (or a screwdriver to loosen the clamps on the screws), then move them along the pipe, freeing the connection point. Carefully remove the pipes. They can be removed relatively easily if they are new - on an older vehicle they may become stuck.
4. If the hose is jammed, try to loosen it by rotating it at the connection point before attempting to remove it again. If that doesn't work, carefully pry the end off using something like a wide screwdriver, but don't use too much force to avoid damaging the pipe or fitting rods. Please note that the radiator hose connections are fragile, do not use excessive force when attempting to remove them. If nothing else helps, cut the hose with a sharp knife so that it can be removed in pieces. Although it is expensive, it is preferable when purchasing a new radiator. Before cutting the old hose, make sure that it is possible to obtain a new one.
5. When reinstalling the pipe, first slide the clamps onto it, and then install the pipe onto the connections. If the hose is hard, lubricate it with soap (or cleaning agent), or soften it by soaking it in boiling water, but be careful not to scald yourself.
6. Push the ends of the hose fully onto their connections, then check that it is installed correctly and properly directed. Slide the clamp along the pipe until it is behind the convex end of the connection, then tighten it securely.
7. Refill the system with coolant (see Chapter 1).
8. Check all parts of the cooling system thoroughly for leaks.
