Replacing cooling system hoses (Fiesta 4)

If a crack appears on a coolant hose in your Fiesta while driving, temporarily wrap the damaged area with adhesive tape. To be on the safe side, unscrew the expansion tank cap: this will prevent excess pressure from building up in the cooling system and allow you to get to the nearest auto repair shop. While driving, constantly monitor the coolant temperature gauge. For replacement, use only original hoses of the required shape and new hose clamps.



SEQUENCE OF WORKS

1. Drain and collect the coolant in a clean container.

2. Loosen the clamps and remove the hoses.

3. Remove the tightly seated ends of the hoses using a screwdriver. Insert the screwdriver between the hose and the branch pipe and carefully pry the hose off.

4. Using Vaseline, place the new hoses on the branch pipes so that they do not come off the branch pipes while driving. After installing the hoses, replace the clamping clamps 1 and 2 (Fig. 6.12) with screw clamps 3, which do not cut deeply into the hose and significantly better dose and distribute the clamping force.

Checking the functionality of the thermostat

The thermostat is sensitive to changes in the temperature it is exposed to. You can check its operation as follows. Direct a stream of hot air from a hair dryer at the thermostat; the thermostat valve should open. Then lower the thermostat into cold tap water; the thermostat valve should quickly close. Otherwise, check the ease of movement of the valve and, if necessary, replace the thermostat.
