Replacing the radiator and coolant

            0

The radiator is installed 8 in front of the car. Behind the radiator is an electric fan. which is controlled by a thermal switch located in the cover of the thermostat housing. The thermal switch turns on and off depending on the temperature of the liquid in the cooling system.

Removal and installation of a radiator

Disconnect the ground wire from the battery clamp.

Remove the multi-pin connector from the fan motor housing.

Remove fan shroud (pic. 2.97).

Drain the cooling system through the lower radiator fitting.

Remove the cooling system hoses.

Unscrew the two mounting bolts and remove the radiator (pic. 2.98 and 2.99).

Leaking parts of the cooling system cannot be repaired and must be replaced with new ones. The radiator is installed in the reverse order of removal.

Fill the cooling system with liquid, pouring it gradually into the expansion tank. Bleed the cooling system as described earlier. From time to time, to clean the grille, it is necessary to blow the radiator from the outside with compressed air. The blowing direction must be opposite to the direction of the airflow while the vehicle is moving forward.

Coolant

The coolant that fills the engine cooling system takes heat and transfers it to the heat exchangers, which are the radiator and the car interior heater.

The fluid is resistant to freezing at low ambient temperatures and has anti-corrosion additives that protect against corrosion of parts with which the coolant comes into contact.

It is recommended to use fluids manufactured by Ford or Castrol. These fluids do not freeze down to -30°C and can be used all year round.

The cooling systems of individual Ford Fiesta car engines have the following volumes:
  • engine 1.1 - 7.1 l
  • 1.4i engine (with injection) - 7.6 l
  • 1.6i engine (with injection) - 7.8 l
  • diesel engine 1.8 - 9.3 l
