Installing a water pump in a 1.8 diesel engine

            0

Clean all sealing surfaces.

Install the water pump with a new gasket.

Connect the elastic hoses of the cooling system. The white line on the hose should line up with the boss on the coolant pump fitting.

Screw the spacer rods into the pump housing using a tool "Loctite 242".

Install the toothed belt tensioner, compress it fully, and then wedge it hard.

Check if the piston of the first cylinder is set to TDC.

Loosen the camshaft pulley.

Install the camshaft and injection pump dowel pins.

Install intermediate wheel.

Install the toothed belt so that the tensioner rod is tensioned and the groove at the end of the camshaft is in the correct position (pic. 2.86).

Loosen the wedge bolt, which will cause the tensioner to rest against the toothed belt.

Secure the tensioner with the mounting bolt.

Attach the camshaft pulley.

Remove the dowel pins.

Adjust the toothed belt tension as described below. Rotate the crankshaft twice in the direction of rotation while the engine is running. Rotate the crankshaft again until the injection pump shaft has rotated 15°.

Loosen the bolts securing the belt pulley to the camshaft.

Loosen the tensioner and close the gap (slack) toothed belt.

Tighten the tensioner to 50 Nm.

Screw the locating pin into the engine housing and set the piston of the first cylinder to TDC.

Check the relative position of the camshaft and the injection pump shaft with the dowel pins.

If the shafts are installed correctly, bolt the camshaft drive belt pulley.

Attach the top cover of the belt drive.

Install a suction silencer.

Raise the vehicle.

Attach the bottom cover of the belt drive.

Install and tension the alternator drive V-belt. The belt tensioner rod should sag 4 mm under thumb pressure.

Install the generator cover.

Lower the car onto its wheels.

Fill the cooling system with liquid, pouring it gradually through the expansion tank. The liquid level must reach the mark "MAX", placed on the wall of the expansion tank.

Connect the battery to the car's electrical network.

Unscrew the bleed screw on the upper elastic hose connected to the radiator.

Start the engine, warm it up to normal temperature.

The upper hose of the cooling system, on which the bleeder is located, must be hot.

Screw the bleeder screw and, if necessary, after the engine has cooled down, bring the coolant level in the expansion tank to normal.
