Removing the water pump in a 1.8 diesel engine (Fiesta 2)

Disconnect the battery from the vehicle's electrical system.

Drain the coolant in the manner described earlier.

Remove the intake noise muffler.

Remove the timing belt cover.

Raise the vehicle on a garage lift and remove the side cover.

Remove the lower timing belt cover.

Remove the generator casing.

Loosen and remove the alternator drive V-belt.

Remove the plug from the TDC pin socket.

Lower the lift and place the car on its wheels.

Set the piston of the first cylinder to TDC (Fig. 2.91).

Set the piston of the first cylinder to TDC (Fig. 2.91).


Turn the crankshaft in the opposite direction while the engine is running. The rotation should be completed when the injection pump shaft has turned 15°.

Screw the TDC alignment pin into the engine housing.

Turn the crankshaft in the direction corresponding to the direction of rotation of the engine during operation. The rotation must be completed at the moment when contact with the TDC installation pin occurs.

Loosen the camshaft drive toothed belt tensioner, move it away from the belt and securely fix it.

Remove the intermediate shaft wheel of the belt drive (Fig. 2.92).

Remove the intermediate shaft wheel of the belt drive (Fig. 2.92).


Remove the timing belt.



Remove the inner timing belt cover (Fig. 2.93).

Remove the inner timing belt cover (Fig. 2.93).


Carefully loosen and remove the timing belt tensioner.

Remove the coolant pump spacer rod.

Remove and take out the coolant pump.
