Water pump (1.8 l diesel) — removal and installation (Focus 1)

Removal

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.

2. Drain the coolant from the cooling system. For more information, refer to the Draining/Filling Coolant and Bleeding the Cooling System chapter in this section.

3. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.

4. Remove the timing belt. For additional information, refer to Section 303-01A / 303-01B / 303-01C / 303-01D / 303-01E.

5. Remove the timing belt tensioner and water pump pulley.



6. Remove the engine mount.

NOTE: To allow removal of the water pump, the engine must be raised using special tool 21-140.

Remove the water pump.



8. Remove the water pump gasket and discard it as no longer needed.

Installation

1.

NOTE: Install a new water pump gasket.

NOTE: Before installing the bolts, install the water pump onto the guide pins.

Install the elements back in place in reverse order.
