Water pump (1.6L Zetec-SE/1.4L) — removal and installation (Focus 1)

Removal

1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system. For more information, refer to the Draining/Filling Coolant and Bleeding the Cooling System chapter in this section.

2. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.

3. Loosen the water pump pulley bolts.



4. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Section 303-05 for additional information.

5. Remove the water pump pulley.

CAUTION: Cover the timing belt and lower cover to prevent contamination with coolant.

Remove the water pump.



7. Remove the water pump gasket and discard it as no longer needed.

Installation

NOTE: Install a new water pump gasket.

Install the elements back in place in reverse order.





3. Add coolant to the cooling system. For more information, refer to the Draining/Filling Coolant and Bleeding the Cooling System chapter in this section.
