Water pump (1.8L/2.0L/1.6L Zetec-E) — removal and installation (Focus 1)

Removal

1. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.

2. Drain the coolant from the cooling system. For more information, refer to the Draining/Filling Coolant and Bleeding the Cooling System chapter in this section.

3. Loosen the water pump pulley mounting bolts.



4. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Section 303-05 for additional information.

5. Remove the water pump pulley.



6. Disconnect the water pump from the water pump housing.



7. Rotate the water pump 180 degrees in the water pump housing and remove it. Discard the sealing ring as it is no longer needed

Installation

1.

NOTE: Install a new water pump O-ring.

Install the elements back in place in reverse order.



2. Add coolant to the cooling system. For more information, refer to the Draining/Filling Coolant and Bleeding the Cooling System chapter in this section.
