Water Pump Housing (1.8L/2.0L/1.6L Zetec-E) — Removal and Installation (Focus 1)

Removal

1. Drain the coolant from the cooling system. For more information, refer to the Draining/Filling Coolant and Bleeding the Cooling System chapter in this section.

2. Remove the timing belt. For additional information, refer to Section 303-01A / 303-01B / 303-01C / 303-01D / 303-01E.

3. Remove the timing belt idler pulley.



4. Disconnect the water pump hose.



5. Remove the lower water pump housing mounting bolt (shown from below for clarity).



6. Remove the upper water pump housing mounting bolt.





7. Remove the water pump housing.



8. Remove the water pump from the water pump housing.

Discard the sealing ring



9. Remove and discard the sealing ring.

Installation

NOTE: Install a new water pump O-ring.

NOTE: Install a new water pump housing O-ring.

1. Install the elements back in place in reverse order.









5. Fill the cooling system with coolant. For more information, refer to the Draining/Filling Coolant and Bleeding the Cooling System chapter in this section.
