Bleeding air from the fuel system

A - deaerator, P - manual fuel pump button, V - sump mounting bolt

This procedure must be carried out in the following cases:

  • disconnection of the fuel pipeline;
  • airing the fuel circuit of the fuel pump;
  • turning off the engine in the absence of fuel in the fuel tank;
  • fuel filter replacement.

1. Loosen the deaerator (A) filter and bolt (5 - see fig. fuel injection system) couplings of the fuel supply pipeline to the fuel pump.

2. Substitute a container under the deaerator and the pipeline coupling.

3. On engines equipped with a hand fuel pump with a shaped polygonal head, unscrew the head of the hand fuel pump.

4. Press the hand pump button until the fuel flowing out of the deaerator does not contain air bubbles.

5. Tighten the fuel filter deaerator.

6. Press the hand pump button until the fuel flowing out from under the coupling bolt of the loose fuel supply line to the fuel pump does not contain air bubbles and immediately tighten the coupling bolt of this pipeline.

7. Stop the fuel supply when the pump button starts to show strong resistance. On engines equipped with a molded head manual fuel pump, hand-tighten the fuel pump head.

8. In case they were replaced (or unscrewed) injection pipelines, loosen the nuts securing them to the injectors, press the accelerator pedal all the way and turn on the starter until fuel begins to pour out from under the loosened pipelines.

9. Screw the fuel lines to the injectors and start the engine.

10. Check all fuel line connections for leaks.
