OHC and V6 engines up to 8/94
Removal
Disconnect the negative (-) battery cable.
Caution: When the battery is disconnected, the contents of electronic memory devices, such as engine fault codes or radio codes, are erased. Before disconnecting, also read the instructions in the chapter "Removal and installation the battery".
Disconnect the multi-pin plug connector at the distributor by pressing the "arrow" wire clamp.
Caution: When doing this, pull on the plug, not on the wire.
2.8L engine: Use a felt-tip pen or marker to make a through mark on the base of the ignition distributor and the crankcase. Loosen the mounting bolt and turn the ignition distributor so that access to the control unit mounting bolts is provided.
Unscrew the bolts securing the control unit "arrow".
Carefully remove the control unit from the ignition distributor with a downward movement.
Installation
Apply heat-protective grease to the back of the control unit.
Using a movement from below, insert the control unit into the ignition distributor housing.
Caution: Insert the control unit carefully to avoid damaging the contacts.
Insert and tighten the mounting bolts.
Engine with a working volume of 2.8 l: set the ignition distributor according to the applied marks in the installation position and tighten the mounting bolt.
Connect the multi-pin plug connector at the ignition distributor.
Note: The wire clamp must secure the connector.
Connect the ground (-) cable to the battery.
If available, set the clock and enter the radio theft protection code.
2.8L engine: check ignition timing.
