Automatic Transmission — Checking the Oil Level

            0

The following materials are required for replacement:
  • Cars up to 7/89: automatic transmission oil specification FORD SQM-2C9010-A.
  • Vehicles since 8/89: Automatic transmission oil specification FORD ESP-M2C166-H.

Examination

Drive the car for about 20 km so that the oil in the gearbox warms up to a temperature of at least +65°C.

Park the car on a level surface.

Let the engine idle for approximately one minute. Apply the hand brake and depress the foot brake pedal.

Leave the engine to idle and switch all operating modes from position P to position 1 three times, then move the operating mode selector lever to position P.

Open the engine compartment hood.

Remove the oil level gauge and wipe it with a lint-free cloth.

Insert the level indicator into the gearbox until it stops and remove it again.

Check oil level. The oil level on the gauge should be between the MIN and MAX marks.

If necessary, use a suitable funnel with a grid left in the guide tube to slowly top up the oil level.

Attention: The oil level must not be below the MIN·mark, as this will lead to the failure of the transmission box. If the oil level is above the MAX mark, then the gearbox will overheat and this will lead to its depressurization. If the level is too high, suck the oil out of the gearbox.

Attention: If the oil in the automatic transmission is black and smells like burning, then the transmission is faulty and should be checked at a service station.

Note: An automatic transmission oil change is not required.
