Checking the thickness of the brake linings

            0

Mark the position of the wheels on the hubs with paint. Thanks to this, the balanced wheel can be installed again in its original position. When loosening the wheel nuts, the vehicle must be on its wheels.

Support the vehicle on jack stands and remove the wheels.

Estimate visually through the hole in the brake shield the thickness of the brake linings - without the reverse side edged with metal. If in doubt, remove the brake pads and measure the lining thickness with a caliper.

Brake linings of disc brakes have reached the wear limit if their thickness has reached 2 mm. The value is indicated without taking into account the thickness of the reverse side edged with metal.

If the wear limit is reached, the brake pads must be replaced. Be sure to replace all the pads of one bridge.

Note: For disc brakes, 1mm brake pad wear is considered to correspond to a vehicle run of 1000km. This is under adverse conditions. Brake pads usually last much longer. With disc brake lining thickness of 5.0 mm (without taking into account the thickness of the back side) they will last for about 3000 km more.

Put wheels like this. so that the marks applied before removal coincide. Lower the vehicle and tighten the wheel nuts crosswise to 100 Nm.
