Checking the brake system for leaks

Examination

1.
NOTE: Brake fluid is water soluble and it is possible that all signs of a fluid leak have been washed away if the vehicle has been exposed to rain or snow.

Check the brake fluid level. Add brake fluid if necessary.

2. Apply the brakes several times and make sure that the pedal is not perceived "soft". If necessary, bleed the air from the brake system. For more information, refer to the chapter Bleeding the Brake System found in this section.

3. Check the brake fluid level and check if the fluid level is really dropping.

4.
NOTE: If the brake fluid level drops and no external leaks are visible, check the master cylinder mechanical seal for leakage.

Locate and repair external leak.
