Removal
All cars
1. Remove the parking brake lever boot.
- 1. Disconnect the cover clip.
- 2. Remove the cover.

NOTE: Make sure the rear brakes are cold.
Release the parking brake all the way to the bottom position.
3. Loosen the parking brake cable adjusting nut until the cable tension is completely released.
- 1.Remove the clamp.
- 2.Loosen the adjusting nut.
4. Remove the wheels. For additional information, refer to Section 204-04.
Cars with anti-lock braking system
5. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor.
All cars

CAUTION: Do not remove the brake drum using the hub nut.
Remove the brake drum assembly from the hub.
7. Remove the retaining springs. Remove the pins.

CAUTION: Do not damage the wheel cylinder boots.
Disconnect the brake shoes from the wheel cylinder.
9. Disconnect the pads from the lower support.
10. Secure the wheel cylinder pistons in place with rubber band.
11. Disconnect the parking brake cable.
- 1.Push the lever inward.
- 2. Disconnect the cable.
12. Remove the lower tension spring.
13. Remove the upper tension spring.
14. Remove the front shoe from the spreader bar and brake shoe adjuster.
- 1. Pull the shoe out.
- 2. Disconnect the expansion bar.
- 3. Release the release bar.

CAUTION: The release bar spring is in a spring-loaded state.
Disconnect the rear shoe from the support.
- 1.Move the expansion bar down.
- 2. Disconnect the parking brake tension spring.
Installation
All cars
1. Clean, inspect and apply grease such as Silicone Dielectric Grease to the contact points of the brake shield.
2. Install the expansion bar onto the rear shoe.
- 1. Install the parking brake tension spring.
- 2.Move the bar up.
3. Install the front shoe onto the expansion bar and brake shoe adjuster.
- 1.Install the expansion bar.
- 2. Push the shoe inward.
- 3.Turn the regulator fully clockwise.
4. Install the upper tension spring.
5. Install the lower tension spring.
6. Install the parking brake cable.
- 1.Push the lever inward.
- 2.Connect the cable.
7. Remove the rubber band holding the wheel cylinder pistons in place.

CAUTION: Do not damage the wheel cylinder boots.
Connect the pads to the brake cylinder.
9. Connect the pads to the lower support.
10. Install the retaining springs.
11. Install the brake drum assembly with the hub.
Cars with anti-lock braking system
12. Install the wheel speed sensor.
All cars
13. Install the wheels. For additional information, refer to Section 204-04.

NOTE: The internal automatic adjuster must be adjusted and the brake shoes must be centered on the brake drum.
Rotate the rear wheels while depressing the brake pedal four times.
15. Adjust the parking cable. Refer to Section 206-05 for additional information.
