Withdrawal


All cars

1. Remove the parking brake lever boot.
  • 1.Remove the boot clip.
  • 2.Remove the case.

NOTE: Make sure the rear brakes are cold.


Release the parking brake all the way to the bottom position.

3. Loosen the parking brake cable adjusting nut until the cable is completely loose.
  • 1.Remove the clip.
  • 2. Loosen the adjusting nut.



4. Remove wheels. See Section 204-04 for more information.

Vehicles with anti-lock brakes

5. Disconnect the wheel speed sensor.




All cars

CAUTION: Do not remove the brake drum using the hub nut.


Remove the brake drum assembly with the hub.



7. Remove retaining springs. Remove pins.

CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the wheel cylinder boots.


Disconnect the pads from the wheel cylinder.



9. Disconnect blocks from the bottom support.




10. Secure the wheel cylinder pistons in place with a rubber band.

11. Disconnect the parking brake cable.
  • 1.Push the lever inward.
  • 2.Disconnect cable.



12. Remove the lower return spring.



13. Remove the top return spring.



14. Remove the front shoe from the expander bar and brake shoe adjuster.


  • 1.Pull the block out.
  • 2.Disconnect the spreader bar.
  • 3.Release the expansion bar.

CAUTION: The expander bar spring is in a spring loaded state.


Disconnect the rear block from the support.
  • 1.Move the spreader bar down.
  • 2.Disconnect the parking brake return spring.



Installation


All cars

1. Clean, check and apply a lubricant such as silicone dielectric grease to the contact points of the brake shield.

2. Install the expander bar on the rear block.
  • 1.Install the parking brake return spring.
  • 2.Move the bar up.



3. Install the front shoe onto the expander bar and brake shoe adjuster.


  • 1.Install the spreader bar.
  • 2. Push the shoe inward.
  • 3.Turn the adjuster clockwise as far as it will go.



4. Install the top return spring.



5. Install the lower return spring.



6. Install the parking brake cable.
  • 1.Push the lever inward.
  • 2.Connect the rope.



7. Remove the rubber band holding the wheel cylinder pistons in place.

CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the wheel cylinder boots.


Connect the pads to the brake cylinder.



9. Connect blocks to the bottom support.



10. Install retaining springs.



11. Establish a brake drum in gathering with a nave.



Vehicles with anti-lock brakes

12. Install the wheel speed sensor.



All cars

13. Install the wheels. See Section 204-04 for more information.

NOTE: The internal auto adjuster must be adjusted and the brake shoes must be centered on the brake drum.


Rotate the rear wheels while depressing the brake pedal four times.

15. Adjust the parking cable cable. See Section 206-05 for more information.
