Signs of a throttle valve that does not close completely may include increased idle speed and fuel consumption, while signs of a throttle valve that does not open completely include the engine not developing full power, insufficient engine responsiveness, jerks and dips in engine operation while the vehicle is moving. Contamination of the throttle valve with crankcase gas deposits usually results in unstable engine operation at idle. The throttle valve drive is electric, controlled by the electronic engine management system unit. Repairing the electric drive requires qualified personnel and special equipment. If these faults occur, first try cleaning the throttle valve (for example, with a solvent or a special carburetor cleaner in an aerosol package). If this does not lead to a positive result, replace the throttle assembly.
You will need a TORX T30 key.
1. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Remove the air filter (see "
Removal and installation the air filter").
3. Remove the four screws and throttle assembly.
4. Disconnect the wiring harness connector from the throttle position sensor.
5. Remove the rubber seal.
Note: With the throttle body removed, cover the intake manifold opening with a piece of rag.
6. Install the throttle assembly in the reverse order of removal.
Note: Pay attention to the marking of the throttle assembly. Purchase a throttle assembly with the same marking.
