Checking and replacing the fuel pressure regulator (Fusion)

The serviceability of the regulator is determined on a running engine by the fuel pressure in the injector rail (see "Checking the pressure in the fuel system"). If the pressure is below normal, and the other elements of the system are in good working order, the regulator is faulty. It must be replaced, as it is not repairable.

1. Reduce the pressure in the fuel system (see "Reducing pressure in the fuel system").

2. Disconnect the wire from the negative terminal of the battery.

3. Remove the fuel rail (see "Removal and installation the fuel rail").

4. Pry it up with a screwdriver…

6. …and remove the pressure regulator.

7. Remove the sealing ring from the regulator body.

Caution! Replace the sealing ring with a new one each time the regulator is removed.


8. Install the regulator in the reverse order of removal, lubricating its sealing ring with engine oil.
